Canada’s AI minister to launch National AI Literacy Initiative in Edmonton

OTTAWA — Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Minister Evan Solomon will announce Canada’s National AI Literacy Initiative on Wednesday in Edmonton, the federal government said in a media advisory.

The event is set for 9:00 a.m. Mountain Time on Sept. 9. Location details are available from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada media relations. The initiative sits under AI for All, the skills pillar of the national AI strategy.

AI for All is framed as free entry-level AI training for Canadians, with targets that include one million entry-level post-secondary students, more than 3,000 educators equipped with AI learning kits, trusted AI agents for post-secondary students, and delivery through libraries and community organizations, including in rural, remote and northern communities.

The advisory itself does not attach new dollar figures or quotes. Broader strategy spending already linked to skills includes Job Bank upgrades, CanCode and Amii pathways for energy workers. Wednesday’s Edmonton event is where Solomon is expected to put the literacy program on the public record.
