Ottawa defence-tech company Dominion Dynamics raised C$139 million in Series A financing led by Georgian, six months after a seed round, in what appears to be the largest Canadian defence-tech Series A on record.
Valor Equity Partners, Expeditions, Lakestar, OMERS Ventures, BDC Capital’s Strong North Fund, Deloitte Ventures, Royal Bank of Canada, and others joined a round that Dominion says is all-equity and all-primary. Total capital since the company’s June 2025 launch is now C$169 million, including C$21 million of seed.
The raise is a bet on a political turn as much as a product. Prime Minister Carney has spent the year arguing that Canada has to build its own deterrent capacity in the Arctic instead of assuming the United States will always underwrite it. Dominion is trying to be the company that converts that speech into sensors, software, and hardware that can actually sit on ice.
Defence procurement in Canada is where ambition usually goes to die. A nine-figure Series A does not change that. It does mean a private company now has enough cash to outrun the usual cycle of studies, pilots, and cancelled RFPs — or to discover, expensively, that the cycle still wins.
